About the Time Capsule:

In 1911, Elizabeth Towne, (who from 1906-1950 lived in the building that now houses The Care Center, in Holyoke, MA) rebuilt her house and publishing offices after the building burned in a fire the winter before. When the renovations were complete, she placed a time capsule in the corner stone of the house. On May 16, 2011 students and staff at The Care Center opened it!

Mrs. Towne was a teen mother, a suffragist and a leader of the New Thought movement. She also published a journal called "The Nautilus", which is the inspiration for our Care Center journal, "Nautilus II." Many of her published works and other photographs and documents from her publishing company were found in the capsule. (122 items in all!)

Contents of the Time Capsule will be exhibited at Wistariahurst Museum, in Holyoke, Mass., through July 2011, and will be archived at the museum for posterity.
